Happy-ness

Happiness, happy-ness

I’ve been told I’m missing you

Oh act of being happy

You hide behind sunburning rays and beneath browned skin

Crinkled smiles and wry grins are your signs

The Greek gaiety, freedom and lust and wine and thrust

Action and vulgarity and loud calamity

A dancing for the gods may we keep their interest

Shine our faces and seer children’s cheeks with love

Unknowing of the fates, unrattled by the snake

Thank you for a visit, for time by sleep’s clock

May we twist our skirts in fields of golden grain and harvest and feast on young lovers’ folly

Love and sun, fleeting, recurring, nostalgic youth, beauty visit our hearts and conquer our sadliness in gray rain

May our skirts twirl her beads bright and reflect to us a new day
